NYC Mission Trip Update #3

Day 2 in New York City 🚇🍕

What a day we had yesterday! We spent the morning learning to navigate the subway system, which turned out to be quite an adventure. We quickly discovered that you have to swipe your card forward and enter right away. If you hesitate, the turnstile locks you out… and let’s just say a couple of us had to get creative to stay with the group! We also learned the hard way that entering the wrong side of the station will send you in the wrong direction entirely. Chalk that up as part of the NYC experience. On a more serious note, we spent time at the 9/11 Memorial, reflecting on the tragic losses and the resilience of this city. From there, we grabbed lunch at different street food vendors, sampling all kinds of ethnic flavors unique to New York. In the afternoon, our team headed to Jackson Heights to join with other mission teams for prayer walking, flyer distribution, and preparation for today’s Back to School Bash. It was eye-opening and heartbreaking to see a former Lutheran church that had been turned into a Tibetan Buddhist temple, a reminder of the great spiritual need here. We wrapped up the day the New York way, with a few slices of authentic pizza, and closed the evening in prayer for today’s event. This morning, we started our day with a team devotion before heading out to help with giveaways at the Back to School Bash. Please continue to pray that every interaction would point people to Christ and that God would use this event to open hearts to the gospel.
