Holy Monday Reflection

A powerful reflection on Holy Monday from our Special Needs Coordinator
Today marks Holy Monday, the day leading up to the crucifixion when Jesus cleanses the temple of buyers and sellers. We often focus on the act of righteous indignation where Jesus flipped tables and drove out the moneychangers who were exploiting God’s House, but we don’t always focus on what happens immediately after this moment of holy anger. Matthew 21:14 says “The blind and the lame came to Him at the temple, and He healed them”. when Jesus flipped tables He also removed BARRIERS that were preventing the marginalized and specifically people with disabilities from accessing the House of God. Those who were pushed to the fringes and told they were unclean and unfit to be in the presence of the Lord were welcomed in by Jesus to meet their spiritual needs and physical needs. We serve a God who made Himself accessible to everyone and made a way for ALL people to come to Him!
As we reflect on Holy Monday, may we ask ourselves:
What barriers might we be unintentionally allowing to remain?
And how can we, like Jesus, help make a way for everyone to experience the presence of God?
