From Blairsville to British Columbia: Sharing Jesus at UBC
The FBC Blairsville Missions Team is headed to Vancouver this week to partner with Origin Church on the campus of The University of British Columbia (UBC) from October 11–18.
UBC is one of the top 50 universities in the world, with:
- 53,481 students
- 5,696 academic staff
- 10,647 administrative staff
While the campus is large and thriving, the spiritual landscape is very different from what many of us know. It’s estimated that fewer than 5% of students are Christians. Most have had little to no connection with Christian family members or friends. They aren’t necessarily rejecting Jesus, they simply haven’t considered Him.
Our team will be serving alongside Origin Church, a congregation made up mostly of students and young professionals that rents space right on campus. Their purpose statement:
“We envision a Gospel-shaped, disciple-making, city-blessing church emerging from the campus community and extending through the city.”
The church is led by Pastor Craig O’Brien, who grew up in Union County, attended UGA and Southwestern Baptist Seminary, and has been serving as a missionary in Vancouver for many years. Origin Church is his first ministry specifically focused on reaching university students.
Please join us in praying for our team as they connect with students, invite them to church, and share the hope of Jesus. This week also coincides with Canadian Thanksgiving, and Origin Church will be hosting a large dinner for students on Sunday evening. Pray that hearts will be open and that meaningful conversations will lead to lasting relationships rooted in Christ.
